The sudden death of a loved one is devastating, especially when unexpected and because of an accident. The 2022 Isle of Man TT saw the tragic deaths of five competitors, with two others still remaining in a serious condition after accidents.

At TRMW we are mindful that even after the COVID slowdown, in the UK, 1,560 people were killed on our roads in 2021 and another 25,740 seriously injured (Department of Transport).

If you need our help or guidance our experienced team will explain how a resulting claim can be made, by whom, what for and steer bereaved families through the many resulting consequences that can follow. It just isn’t as simple as trying to claim the Fatal Accidents Act set Bereavement Award now £15,120. 00. Blame in full or in part must be accepted and strict criteria about who can claim the Award apply.

We can assist by explaining the involvement of the Coroners’ Court, and Criminal Court when a prosecution is being brought and through our Private Client Department to deal with the requests made in a will or obtain a grant of representation when there is no will. We can also direct you to organisations who can help with your bereavement or to support campaigns to avoid accidents, such as BRAKE, (the Road Safety Charity).

The law is not straightforward forward and just as a loved one was an individual, different outcomes will be achieved depending on the circumstances of the incident giving rise to the death and the individual’s family and financial circumstances. Our Head of Department, Joanna Bailey, is a Trustee of BRAKE and has over many years lectured to the Police, Health Professionals, and charities about this area of law.

We hope you never need us, but “Just in Case”. Ride safe.
